The Dahl Center houses the unique 180-foot oil-on-canvas panorama spanning 200 years of U.S. history in the Cyclorama Gallery. Museum of Geology
The Museum of Geology is an exhibit facility that presents an astonishing array of fossils, minerals, and rocks that are representative of the geologic diversity of South Dakota. The fossil collection includes dinosaurs such as Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus and Edmontosaurus, a duck-billed dinosaur. The mineral collection includes a room of South Dakota minerals that include the State Gem, Fairburn Agate, and the State Mineral, Rose Quartz. The minerals from mines in the granite rocks of the Custer and Keystone area dominate this room. The main section of the mineral exhibit is a systematic presentation of mineral diversity and includes more than 1000 specimens from around the world. A special exhibit of minerals that fluoresce under ultraviolet light is of great interest to our visitors. The exhibits are open to the public everyday except Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Easter. The Lakota Artist is naturally artistic and would be classed as a modernist; their art is old, yet alive; their modernism is an expression of a continuing vigor seeking new outlets. The Sioux designs are symbolic of the Lakota culture, portraying the nature around them, their activities and their dealings. The Lakota has achieved the highest development of the use of the triangle.
